About Water Softener Guide
Water Softener Guide is a set of plain, step-by-step guides for people who own a water softener and want to install, maintain, set up or fix it themselves.
Who we are
The guides are written by the team behind SoftPro Water Systems and Quality Water Treatment, the two stores whose softeners and parts are linked from these pages. This site collects answers to questions softener owners ask, drawn from the makers' manuals, the two stores' published guides and university extension material: where the drain line goes, why the brine tank is full of water, what the hardness setting should be, and when a part needs replacing. We don't publish author profiles; each guide is a team effort, and the same team updates a guide when a manual or a store's instructions change. The aim is simple: fewer service calls for problems an owner can fix with the right steps, and a clear signal for the jobs that do need a plumber.
How we write the guides
Every procedure and number on this site comes from a published source: the control valve maker's manual (for example the Pentair Fleck service manuals), the two stores' own installation and care guides, or public-agency and university material for code and septic questions. If a source doesn't give a figure, we leave it out or tell you to check your own manual. We don't invent test results or customer stories, and the dates on each page show when the facts were checked. Start with the maintenance checklist or the troubleshooting guide, or browse every guide.
Links to our stores
Some guides link to a part or product sold by SoftPro or Quality Water Treatment, such as a resin cleaner, a bypass valve or a hardness test kit. We only link where the store sells the exact item the guide is about, and every such link carries a short note that the store is ours. The full explanation is on the ownership disclosure page. There are no display ads, and no other company can pay to be mentioned.
